a little Welsh purse

Damn, yesterday I was going to do some kind of Welsh related post/drawing as it was St. David's day (he's the patron saint of Wales, by the way) but I forgot. On St. Davids day in Wales we used to dress like THIS to go to school. No seriously, we did. Anyway, I did draw this whilst listening to a documentary about Owain Glyndwr, the last Welshman to hold the title Prince of Wales. Does that count?

A little tip here. If you should ever be thinking of buying a silver pencil; don't bother. There's no point (sorry), a waste of money. Just use graphite.

Luminous! I love the volume you conveyed in the green. And the chain (which i know you love drawing!) is gorgeous in its details. Gosh.

One more thing: after reading the text you wrote on the side, it reminded me of the "teeny weeny greeny things" that i listen to regularly on the "More Hip Than Hippie" podcast. It's a blast!

Apparently Ms. Augusta Hall was also the costumer for Mother Goose of nursery rhyme fame!

Thank you both.

Julie - how on earth did you know that??? I'm intrigued!

France - I'll get straight over there and have a listen...

Thanks guys!

Teri - I'm hoping that there is no photographic evidence to prove that I, in fact, did HAVE to dress like that! The shame!

Mr Wolf - how did you know that???

Thanks for the visit and the nice words! I have a sister-in-law who does hvac, which may help me notice pipes and blowers......

I love the way I knew this was canvas before I read the words, and the way you show the volume, totally without losing the texture.... Wow. Also love that green. Mmmmm.

Thanks for the comment, Andrea! I always look forward to seeing your latest posts. Your shading on this purse looks as soft as velvet. Beautiful!

Your pictures are a delight. We have a few Welsh people in Geelong and I used to go with them to a hymn festival and oh they could SING and SING. Actually they sing like Fijian choirs - or visa versa.

Love your work so much. Found your Blog purely by chance as I have been on the look out for a name plaque for my son. My daughter has your pixie one on her door and I can't find anything that compares. Your drawings just draw a person in and make them want to study every line.

A magical little purse. And the shading on the metal chain is perfect.

As for that custome, well it makes me rather happy that we don't have one in the US. Except if you count dressing up as pilgrims. But that's only if you're in the school.

beautifully done! Yes it is like that with silver paint too! Especially when you photograph it it turns dull & dead looking...
