Damn, yesterday I was going to do some kind of Welsh related post/drawing as it was St. David's day (he's the patron saint of Wales, by the way) but I forgot. On St. Davids day in Wales we used to dress like THIS to go to school. No seriously, we did. Anyway, I did draw this whilst listening to a documentary about Owain Glyndwr, the last Welshman to hold the title Prince of Wales. Does that count?
A little tip here. If you should ever be thinking of buying a silver pencil; don't bother. There's no point (sorry), a waste of money. Just use graphite.
Luminous! I love the volume you conveyed in the green. And the chain (which i know you love drawing!) is gorgeous in its details. Gosh.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing: after reading the text you wrote on the side, it reminded me of the "teeny weeny greeny things" that i listen to regularly on the "More Hip Than Hippie" podcast. It's a blast!
ReplyDeleteApparently Ms. Augusta Hall was also the costumer for Mother Goose of nursery rhyme fame!
ReplyDeleteThank you both.
ReplyDeleteJulie - how on earth did you know that??? I'm intrigued!
France - I'll get straight over there and have a listen...
It is a wonderful little purse and France is right, that chain is awesome!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I just cannot see you in that costume :)
This is beautiful! What a wonderful drawing and that green is glowy!
ReplyDeleteThat's absolutely adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love your pencil work, but when you use colour it just POPS! It's amazing!
ReplyDelete(And I'm loving the Welsh hat!)

Thanks guys!
ReplyDeleteTeri - I'm hoping that there is no photographic evidence to prove that I, in fact, did HAVE to dress like that! The shame!
Mr Wolf - how did you know that???
Thanks for the visit and the nice words! I have a sister-in-law who does hvac, which may help me notice pipes and blowers......
ReplyDeleteI love the way I knew this was canvas before I read the words, and the way you show the volume, totally without losing the texture.... Wow. Also love that green. Mmmmm.
Thanks for the comment, Andrea! I always look forward to seeing your latest posts. Your shading on this purse looks as soft as velvet. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYay, I surprised you! :D
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are a delight. We have a few Welsh people in Geelong and I used to go with them to a hymn festival and oh they could SING and SING. Actually they sing like Fijian choirs - or visa versa.
ReplyDeletew.
hi andrea... i absolutely love your work! i linked you on my blog too... i cant help but pop by every few days to see what you're up to next... =)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art with great detail!
ReplyDeleteLove your work so much. Found your Blog purely by chance as I have been on the look out for a name plaque for my son. My daughter has your pixie one on her door and I can't find anything that compares. Your drawings just draw a person in and make them want to study every line.
ReplyDeleteA magical little purse. And the shading on the metal chain is perfect.
ReplyDeleteAs for that custome, well it makes me rather happy that we don't have one in the US. Except if you count dressing up as pilgrims. But that's only if you're in the school.
Wow thank you everyone. I'm flattered to get all these lovely comments for this little purse!!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Hey Andrea, thanks for your words!
ReplyDeleteThe book will be out soonn, March-april.
I am waiting to get a box of samples, I am wayy excited! As soon as they arrive I will make a post.

Marjorie

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! (And so is your hedgehog!) My goodness, that is some costume!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Your style is uplifting. Good job.
ReplyDeleteWow thanks guys - I've never recieved so many comments. And, for this little old purse - who'd have thought it!
ReplyDeletebeautifully done! Yes it is like that with silver paint too! Especially when you photograph it it turns dull & dead looking...
