I haven't completed a drawing challenge for some time. I am having trouble finding inspiration at the moment. So many things to draw and yet I don't want to draw any of them. So I went back to the challenge list and Number 2 was 'draw a lamp'. All the lamps in my house are pretty uninspiring. Functional lighting, not very interesting. So I went for this old thing. Not quite a whole lamp, but still...
What an excellent drawing. At first sight I thought it was a photo! Wonderfull work.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about having lots of things to draw but not really wanting to draw any of them. Here lately I've felt as though I need to spend too much time getting something perfect...time I feel I can't spare at the moment. I'm hoping to get over this hump soon. But, back to your drawing, I really get a sense of the shade's fabric, especially when I look at the large image. I would go with a very dainty base.
ReplyDeletewow Andrea, this is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! Gorgeous, brilliant (where did I leave that thesaurus??!!) Such detail, texture and colour ... I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure (Thrift Store finds are very often TREASURES). You did a fantastic job, as always! It really does come across as fabric, very soft, lovely floral details and the trim at the top and fringe on the bottom - OH MY!! Love the colors too!
ReplyDeleteLovely lamp shade! You did such pretty, delicate work on it. Looks like it was a great find.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. You need to expand your colored pencil work, your shading is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes! you have a blog too! I just love your work so much! Would you mind if I put you in my link list on my new blog? I would just need a banner of yours if you have one. You could email me at annabarrow@mac.com
ReplyDeleteHave a magical day! Annax
Holy crap. The texture of the lampshade is amazing. The colors are exquisite -- i feel as though i can touch it. And i know the feeling of not knowing what to draw sometimes. That EDM list is amazing for that -- it throws us some necessary challenges.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the electric plug yet??!
Oh wow, this is great!! I thought it was a photo. Yes, the challenge list is always a good source of inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAnd you could always work on your book. I never let up do I?
Stunning, Andrea - it just looks like scanned textile, even/especially when enlarged -really beautiful
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean...I was having a similar problem today. But what an amazing job you did. How long do these drawings take to complete? It does help to be interested in the subject if you'll be spending a long time on it!
ReplyDeleteWow thanks guys.
ReplyDeleteI was going to spend more time on this drawing - put more detail in on the pattern and the fringe, but something just told me to leave it as it was. I'm glad I did - I could have ended up killing it!
Jana - my drawings so take a lot of time. Sometimes hours and hours. Mostly the smallish ones like these will take about two hours.
Teri - I'm glad you don't let up. I haven't done ANY work on my book since the post saying I was going to work on it!! I'm using every avoidance tactic known to man - and I don't know why??! I just don't know.
Cheers everyone.
this is lovely! nice character!
