when the morning cries and you don't know why

Here's one of those spur of the moment drawings.

Earlier today I was clearing out my bags. Three bags in total. Amongst all the usual rubbish I found these items; a tin of tuna, a dolls head, a sock and a peg.

Now, that reminded me of this thing I once heard. I'm not sure how true it is, or how my source came to find this out. But I was told that the mother of the Bee Gees always kept a pork pie in her handbag. At ALL times. Wherever she went, she would have a pork pie (I'm guessing a Melton Mowbray, but I could be wrong) in her handbag. I always found this the most fabulous piece of trivia I'd ever heard. It quietly waited in my long term memory until I had a chance to use it.

Girls, I wonder what unusual things you have in your handbag? Let me know. I might just make it into a drawing. I'm not talking about stuff like chocolate, tampons, nappies, make up, etc. What I'd like to hear about is your, well, pork pies.

I think I might have to keep a chocolate bar in my purse at all times now. Hadn't thought of it before. :D

I had a squash in my purse today. And a wrench.

Besides my usual spare tire and a Smurfs biography, everything is pretty wacky in my purse.
Ha.
I loved reading this and the drawing is, again, superb. I can never beat the mother of the Bee Gees.

Two beach rocks, a mussel shell, and a Montreal metro ticket. I didn't delve further than the first layer. :)

Even your "spur of the moment" drawings are amazing.

I don't keep a purse really...so there aren't any interesting things in them!

I don't own a purse but if I did I'd keep my pet budgie in there. He'd love the adventures to be had haha.

I keep a jar of calligraphy ink, a hunting knife and a spare toothbrush.
I suppose those might be rather normal, but I'd rather not be caught without any of them.

I have to transfer the contents of my handbag to a newer, bigger, one today so I'm a bit scared as to what I'll find...I keep a sketchbook & pencil in there, also have some unused Greek bus tickets because of course they will come in handy here in Hampshire....

I am struggling with the concept of a pork pie in a handbag in Australia in the height of summer in the light of what happened to some fox's glacier mints in mine, in England, in the depths of winter.

Love the drawing.

Drill bits. Some people think it's unusual....

Conkers. Two aged and mouldering conkers.
Also, an equally aged free chocolate mint from an Indian restaurant.

Individual packets of salt and/or pepper from restaurants. And blue latex gloves.

Another fun drawing. Love it.

I've started carrying good assam in teabags because so many restaurants have only Lipton dust now (they're cutting costs). And foam earplugs because I'm tired of superloud music in entertainment venues.

Like the rest of us, I always carry something to draw with something to draw on and a mini palette with waterbrush.

This is a very fun drawing!

I have a flint and steel on a chain in mine, along with the thick ends of two wooden chopsticks (my friend cut his down to fit into a bento box and I got the remains for some reason.)

As well as usually a drawing pad, a swiss army knife, a compass, and a bit of lego on a keychain with keys.

Hee Hee.

Thank you all. Am loving the fact that you also have weird stuff in your bags. Conkers (a girl after my own heart), a squash, latex gloves (why?), drill bits (?!), and half chop sticks (OK?) are just some of the more unusual items. Amongst others. Thank you all. One day I'll make a drawing of these, but it'll have to go on my long list of other random stuff to draw.

Nita, I didn't mention tea bags as I assumed everybody has a bag full of tea bags - like I do.

Amanda, I always thought it was best to keep ones pork pies chilled, but if it works for a BeeGee mother I ain't gonna argue.

I did have to go to my manager in work, one day, and say "I've just remembered that I left a very smelly brie in my bag and I'd like to put it in the fridge". She said it was one of the more strange requests she'd heard.

Cheers, all. LOVED reading all of these.

Hmmm...some spare odd euros and pence from my trip to the UK and Europe a year ago...a piece of rock from the hill overlooking Guiness Lake in Ireland, a piece of some limestone, or that chalky stuff from the White Horse near Wiltshire, a perfectly egg-shaped lava rock...sketchbook, odd bits of chocolate with other odd bits stuck to them...should I eat it anyways? hmmm....a couple CD's??, watercolor paints. The rest is the normal stuff...no tuna:)

I LOVE your drawing:)

My favourite piece of trivia was that the original drawing of the Dormouse in Alice in Wonderland was based on Rosetti's pet wombat. I managed to drop this into conversation the first time I met my wife: it didn't scare her off: though she did check it on Google. Sadly I have since learned that it is unlikely to be true. Back to the drawing board..... what about the fact that Fritz Lang employed 10,000 bald extras in the making of Metropolis?

P.S. My wife are still together.....

Cheers, folks. I love these subjects that get you guys involved. I really love reading these comments.

Rowland, what about Bob Holness playing the sax on Baker Street? That's a great piece of untrue trivia which was made up by Stuart Maconie (that bit is true).

Cheers, my dears.

Great drawing!
I used to carry a monkey wrench in my bag. It was back in the days when I had a folding bicycle and sometimes the seat would need tightening or it would just fall right down. These days, the contents aren't so bizarre. Unless a packet of almonds, some ribbon, a mini wooden peg and a broken earring counts?
Now off to take a closer look at that drawing...

turns out I have a roll of orange ribbon, a pair of scissors, a rock with a crystal of fool's gold in it, and a small squash in my purse...on top of the usual assortment.

I used to carry my crocheting in my purse many years ago. The day the gook poked through the purse and snagged a passing man's trousers was the last time I did!

I got some worn fingerless gloves, a sketch book, a parking receipt and lots of change!
Its been too long since I visited, you are fabulous!
