into something more

Here's a couple more from the travel Moleskine. The first, above, is one of the many postcards I brought back from a trip to Port Meirion, North Wales. I just cannot tell you how much I love this crazy beautiful village. It is one of the most surreal places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. It was designed by Clough Williams Ellis and the drawing on the postcard is one of his architectural designs. If you ever should find yourself in North Wales you absolutely must visit Port Meirion. I insist on it. Insist.

This pencil, which is quite obviously from the Louvre, was originally going to be surrounded by other objects in the drawing. But, once I'd drawn it on the page I liked the simplicity of the composition. The challenge for me, now, is to leave it as it is. To not add anything else. I'm not at all confident about the chances of that.

i love the sole pencil on the page. it implies all kinds of possibilities for words not yet written. very powerful image that really speaks to me ;)

I love it, too.

Don't touch the Louvre pencil, Andrea! It's like the bare, acoustic version of a song.
And while I think it is utterly perfect, check this entry on Michael Nobbs's blog: there.

I love the charm of the little village in North Wales.

Sooo wonderful Andrea! I got so excited when I read "Port Meirion" because it is a place I visited when I went abroad on my own (with friends of the family) and that what an unbelievably intense experience! I have subscribed to your blog for a while now and I am hooked - fascinated by the development and growth you underwent as an artist.
Thanks for sharing your art!

'Step away from the pencil!'
Looks great on it's own, resist the urge!

I've only been to Port Meirion once, back in the 80s, but I loved it. Beautiful and strange.

Your drawings are always a delight! Love the lonely pencil.
I have been to Portmeirion a couple of times - stayed a long weekend in one of the cottages right in the middle!! A long time ago, when I was just starting to sketch my travels. I trust you will be drawing something inspirational from your visit!

PS: Sorry, I just realised this postcard IS your drawing!!!

Your detailed drawings are superb but yes, step away from the pencil and resist and urge to return. It is beautiful in its simplicity.

Hey Andrea! I've never been to Portmeirion, but I feel like I lived there, having watched re-runs of The Prisoner (which was shot there) back when I was a kid. Would love to visit some day.

I love your pencil drawing as is: very Zen simplicity, beautiful treatment of the wood at the working end, and gutsy placement right there on the seam of your book! Just sayin'.

Thank you thank you thank you.

It's so good to hear that some of you guys have not only visited Port Meirion but love it too.
I think it is possibly my favourite place on earth.

And, yes, Anthony, it is, of course, the home of The Prisoner. And, if you are a fan of that series it is just one more reason for you to go to visit Port Meirion. There's a Prisioner shop there too!

Thank you all, I'm still itching to add to the Louvre drawing though.

Cheers, my dears.
