Just a quick post. As you may know, I've recently been practicing drawing people, and, I finally plucked up the courage and went out of the house. I plucked up the courage and went out to draw people, that is. I found a quiet corner in a tearoom.I felt quite concerned about the 'big boned' fella, above, perched on the tiny chair. I was more concerned for the chair, though.
The brat, I mean kid, below, was having a tantrum because the tearoom didn't have exactly what he wanted - despite them having more fabulous cakes than you could shake a stick at. In my day he would have got a good old clip around the ear hole.
How old am I exactly? 83 it seems.

Definitely beautiful sketches here. A little different than your legendary cross-hatch drawings, and I really like the strong outlines of the characters, it grabs hold of attention really well.

ReplyDeleteThere are times when you long for the days of that clip, eh? We were once captive in a restaurant, along with everyone else there, by a child of an age to know better, having a HUGE tantrum that went on for the entire meal. I kept telling myself that perhaps she had an emotional problem! (She was sure giving US one!)
Bravo for screwing up your courage and drawing in public. Now that wasn't so bad, was it .... except for the tantrummy kid, that is. Your drawings are very well done. We all knew you could do it! nancy

ReplyDeleteWell done Andrea! God, I know how hard this is! :( Your sketches look relaxed, no sign of stress or nerves. Hmm, maybe kids having tantrums are the way to go - everyone more aware of them than anyone quietly sketching!

Great question, Barbara...in our case, the parents HAD to know that no one in the restaurant was having a relaxing meal! Still, this one did provide a distraction for Andrea. ;-)

ReplyDeleteI'm always a little reticent about posting this stuff. Because I feel out of my comfort zone, but I guess that's a good thing from time to time. Now I can go and cross hatch the hell out of something.
I must do more of this sort of stuff. I really enjoy it. I just wish I was invisable. That would be the perfect solution.

Yes I'm convinced that once you hit your 40's, you fast track it to your 80's in about 3 weeks flat. Witnessing children's birthday parties in fast food outlets speeds the process up even further.
