i'm too lost in you
Phew! I feel like I've been drawing this for the whole week...er...actually I have. I feel like I've been away for ages. It's the longest I've left it between posts, since starting this blog, and I'm blaming this drawing for that. I've been lost in it. It's a project that I have been working on for...well, I won't tell you what it's for at the moment. That's where you come in.
So here's a little competition; the first person to guess the theme of this drawing (and yes there is a theme to it) will win a piece of artwork by me. I'm not sure how difficult it may be but the clues are there. Have a try if you'd like!

Ooooh! Is it all things that are parts of a larger whole? I think maybe - but not the beetle. Unless it is part of the larger whole of the genus of beetles it belongs to. Then it could be. Am I close?
Great drawing. I think it may well be the things that you cleaned out of your car. I know that my car will collect things just like these ;>)
This is a fabulous drawing! Not surprised it took you that long. It would take me longer than a week, though.
My guess for the theme is 'Found Objects'.
I wondered where you disappeared to!
There are some wonderful details here but all I can think of is that it's a collection from your garden shed!
(I like the car idea of Irene's - it's amazing what we keep in our cars)
Oh well Andrea, I'm not so good at riddles. I see several things going on here, like vices (smoking drinking, sweets, excessive drawing (!), eating, but some of the other things don't fit that . . .
But how about this--pieces of trash, such as you might pick up from the side of the road on a walk??
I'm with Irene. It could easily have been the contents of the driver's door pocket in my old Volvo! :-)
I like this one! Hmmm, my guess is "found in the garden"?
Great drawing!
A MASTERPIECE!
mmm the ideas that the previous people said are good options. In my case with some of these could be my bedside table. Sometimes I eat an apple at night the collect the rest in the morning. And in the drawer you can find as many things as these here, even the bugs, but plastic ones that glow in the dark... So I go for that option: Your bedside table + drawer contents.
Hi Andrea! I left comments on your Flickr -- but for me, this is stuff I too have in my garden shed -- and often -- in one of my kitchen 'catch all' drawers -- yep, beetle too .. that drawer catches it all! LOL
Very neat!! looks like the stuff I pick up on my weekly trash walk around our property, near the road...gosh, did I WIN???
Ooooh this may not be as difficult as I'd thought.
Some of you are quite close but not quite close enough. They are objects that have been found - but where? That's a big clue I think.
Alfie are you telling me that you have WKD bottle tops in the car door pocket?! You'd better hope you don't get pulled over.
I'm quite surprised at the stuff some of you have in your drawers?!!(He he). Beetles, cigarette butts and rotten old apple cores? Yikes.
Cheers guys. Keep on guessing.
Items found in your handbag?
Great sketch!!!
Ok, i don't want to read other people's suggestions, for fear i might be corrupted. At first, i thought this might be the contents of your garbage. But... if your habits are as bad as Tom's :-), this could very well be a compilation of what's found on the floor of your car.
Hmmm??
I have to add that this collection is brilliant. We are getting a kick out of staring and guessing. Great idea.
Items found in the park?
Things found at the car wash or things found camping.
Things found or used while camping or hiking?
Great illo by the way!
What gorgeous sketches. My guess is these are things that you've found under your stoop. I imagine if you're anything like me, friends would be hanging out on the front porch and throwing all kinds of knicknacks off the side. :)
Things found while out walking, perhaps - a beautifully drawn collection anyway
Oh, this is just too much fun and everything is jsut so wonderfully drawn, no wondering, you can see exactly what is waht..LOVE THIS! My guess is that this is a collection of things coming from your basement and if you don't have basement, then the garage?
Great post!
Ronell
I think it is things from an anorak or coat pocket, maybe from a picnic or barbeque, I spy a Newcastle Brown lid...or perhaps from a tent pocket after a camping trip...
I love this drawing, I havent a clue what some of them are, but if it is not your car, possibly your backpack? Or finally what was around a rubbish bin and hadnt actually got into it.
Nup nup nup nup nup!
I like this. I'm getting high on the power!! Tee hee.
Some fo you are quite close. I'm wondering whether this is UKcentric. The bottle tops are from alco-pops and beers. I think that most of this stuff could be found in any of the suggestions you've come up with but there is just one, or two, little things that point to it being the location I am looking for. It's just identifying them.
Joan I'd never even heard of a stoop. Unfortunately we don't have porches over here and we don't get to hang out on them. Something to do with the continuos rain!
Thank you all for taking part.
This is just too much for me...I can't handle all this stress...far too curious by nature and I just can't let it go, so I'm back with another chance, how many do we get?
Could this be findings from the local pub?
And if not, then you must name who was close to the right answer..hie hie
I'll probably be back with another shot...
Ronell
Everyone has made awesome guesses so I'm sure you have a winner by now. I just wanted to say what an incredible artist you are and I've enjoyed so much visiting your blog. :)
I'm thinking ..you were at a fun fair or theme park with merry go round, big wheel and stuff...or how bout you were at the Regatta, or a beer garden or maybe at the bookies of a horse race, Ascott, a garden show of some kind, an antiques show...told you I can't let it go...
Ronell
I am going to guess that it's stuff that has collected in between the seat cushions of couches, stuffed chairs, benches, etc.
Neat drawing!
(If that's not it...I'll be back!)
Great drawing Andrea. Is it thingsfound at a park(near a bench or table)
Looks like the kind of things you'd find under your average pub garden bench to me.
Great drawing as always. I love the tiny details in your work.
Nope!
Although I think you are very close. I genuinely found all these items at this specific location. I left out the condom as I didn't fancy carrying that home to draw(don't know if that helps or hinders)!! The cigarettes were bad enough!! I will say that Anita and Genine were the closest with park.
Cheers guys.
I think you may have won some sort of contest for the number of comments on a blog, Andrea. My guess is probably too American, but it looks like things I'd find at a camp ground site that I'd clean up before we set up camp. (Don't think I ever found a condom, and am so happy you did not include it, ha ha)
Ok, so here's my wild guess... you went to the Live Earth concert a few weeks ago, and in an effort to help out the environment, this was the trash you picked up as you were leaving...
Do I get points for creativity?
wow. each item so wonderfully drawn. and then the overall layout. you keep topping yourself.
i was not going to even guess - but heck why not.
it look to me like what you'd find at a picnic area (after the 4th of July here :-)) or around a playground.
regardless - love the drawing - oh yeah... Andrea what is the item that has the word MAGNUM on it?
I'll take a guess at something Welsh - a trip to Cardiff Arms Park? (Altho I don't know if that's your thing!) Great drawing as always, I love looking at all the details!
No guys not correct.
Felicity, we musy have just cross posted. Ive just been at your place! Cardiff Arms Park is no longer our national stadium - it's now the Millenium Stadium. It is definately my thing when the Six Nations rugby is on. Especially when we are beating England!
Suzanne, yours is the most creative guess...but still wrong!
Tracy, the Magnum is an ice lolly stick. Well an ice-cream on a stick
Cheers Brenda.
I've just seen your comment as I was visiting your blog! The rain has literally just arrived so it's bucketing down here too! Can't imagine how it must be in the UK if most of it has already fallen there! Green & Stone is in Chelsea on the King's Road. It's down the other end from Sloane Square but easy to get to on any of the buses going that way and close to a bus stop. HTH!
Fairground?
Seaside?
Oops, sounds like I'm only seven years out of date!!
Is it from a lookout. One of those spots along the highway where you can pull the car off the road--with a beautiful view where people can stop to gaze and sometimes have a picnic?
ok - one last guess for me - the beach?
hello! First of all, I have to say that you are very tallented, I love your illustration's! Every day I came here to saw your lovely drawings!
I'm going to try to discover the title of this illustration's, and I think that if you done this in a week, I think, did you decided to collect thing's in your way to go home or work? or near a place where you have spend a lovely affertoon with your friend's in a picnic and found all this objects?!?
My guess is under the bench at the bus stop near the trains, just over the street from the park.
Another great collection of stuff! I don't really have any better ideas than everyone else, but I was wondering whether it was near a church or registry office (because of the confetti).
the drawings and layout are brilliant and the game is fun... I've read what everyone's said so I guess I have some advantage but I'm probably still off... my only guess is that this is a collection of things we should recycle instead of just throw in the trash, or is it just things you found in the trash?
Yeah!! We have a winner.
Emma got it - it was all found outside a church. This piece was created for an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Wales. The theme of the exhibition was 'In A Country Churchyard'. I thought it would be quite easy because of the confetti (and the angel) but obviously not. Well done Emma and thanks for everyone for having a go.
Cheers.
Wow...the confetti really threw me for a loop. I could not figure out what those little hearts were.
broken/trash/rubbish
BTW, I woud love to send you something...
found in the front (or back) garden!
hmmm.. my first thought: you sitting on a bench in a park or garden. but you already said that it was close but not the right thing. maybe somewhere by a lake?
actually my second guess would have been the subway station.
Oh fun, fun, fun Andrea! Let's do that again! *big grin*
I'm so excited to hear I'm the winner! I think all the "easy" answers had already been ruled out by the time I got here, so it forced me to really look closely - something that's always worth while doing with your drawings, Andrea! I'm just off to send you email.
I've been arrived too late! But I shouldn't have won anyway since my guess should have ben "things found as a volunteer helping to clean a National Park (or something alike).
The piece is awesome.
I guess I arrived too late too! But I certainly wouldn't have guessed right ... and I'm amazed at what can be found at a churchyard! Wonderful idea Andrea, let's do it again and this time I'll try to get in on it on time!
PS: Did you get my email in answer to your question about business?
Holy crap!!! This is even more brilliant! I was like Ronell, not handling the stress too well!!
Darn it, Andrea. This is grand.
Trash you found while on a walk? or just on the street?
Great work ... how on earth do you draw so many lines and still keep your sanity. such patience.
Wow!! Can't believe how many comments. Thanks to everyone for taking part. I really enjoyed all the guesses too. I think maybe I'll do another in the future but I need to get over this one first!!
The most surprsing thing, for me, was the amount of cigarette ends there were?! I did have to hunt high and low for the other stuff and was surprised I managed to fill the page. I think I may have looked a little strange (picking up bits from the churh/grave yard)but what the hell!! Some stuff I made sketches of on loation and other bits I brought home to draw.
It's amazing what you find when you really look.
THANK YOU ALL!!!
This was nice and fun to look at too!
Would've never guessed that!! Great post, enjoyed this, Andrea!
Ronell
Great drawing, such wonderful detail. I would have guessed "things found on the beach" and even going back didn't pick up on the confetti.
Great fun
Wow Andrea, you really got everyone going. Marvelous, beautiful and detailed drawing...no wonder you were lost.
pcyOh Andrea ,so sad to have missed this. and I really do think I just might have got it . I live in the country, small church, weddings and being someone always collecting bits. Anyways fantastic drawing , love it. Missed coming, putting up my Exhibition ,now open.
Put about it on my blog.
Eileen
What a great idea for "In A Country Churchyard"! And it is beautiful indeed.
I'm glad someone won because I can't handle this type of stress. It's so lovely and now I'm going to look back at each piece knowing about the church. It's hard to imagine having your kind of patience.
I'm glad I came to this post late as I would have spent all my time just trying to figure out the puzzle and missed out on just getting lost in the drawing. This is simply wonderful Andrea. Once again your attention to detail amazes me, as does your gorgeous line work, and your gift for making disparate items work together so beautifully. You never cease to inspire.
awww I'm so bummed I missed this!! Fantastic idea though and yet again another amazing drawing. Is this possibly a record for comments to a blog?! lol
xx
wow, your composition is so complex it almost looks abstract!
beautiful sensetive style :}
Thank everybody for taking part.
I'm really stunned by the response. Cheers!
Happy work. I think it is lovely.
