driving nowhere, come along for the ride?

I had no idea where this picture was going. It started as an inventory of my keys. So, I put all those down on the paper. However it looked really quite dull. I liked the individual drawings of the keys, but it just wasn't working as a whole. There was just too much white space. I considered putting text in but then came up with the idea of framing the keys. I like the result.

I'm going away for a few days. I just wanted to say thanks to everybody who has visited my blog. Thank You! To all those who have left comments (new and old) I really appreciate it and will get around to paying you all a visit when I get back. Cheers folks.

Andrea,
This is crazy good! The up close detail you put in is wild and from back a bit it all melts into looking grainy and worn (in a good way).
There is not a crosshatch or dot out of place.

Brilliant! Excellent detail on those keys and framing them was a wonderful idea, I love it. Hope you have a good time wherever you're going!

I really, really like your drawings and your drawing style. I am a great fan of grid-type layouts and drawings of collections of things, and though I don't (yet!) have your level of skill, I'm also rather fond of ballpoints. To add my two-pennorth I prefer small blue thing without the text. Although I do sometimes use lettering myself, I think a drawing of this quality can perfectly well speak for itself. And with this depth of detail it rewards slow, careful looking.

Thanks everyone,

You would not believe how long this took. It took quite a while to put all the keys in - then the frames too. Oooof!

I like the result too and Pat I think it does look quite worn.

Cheers!

Hello from Italy:
I love the way you balance your composition!
When you put a simple detail you catch the lights and shadows perfectly.
Thank you indeed for sharing!
Arrivederci.

I loved this, Andrea, and the small blue thing one. I don't think that beautifully written text does anything but enhance the other art. You may like this too...
