welsh dragon

I'm not really into all that flag waving (there's always a 'but' after a statement like that, isn't there?) but I do love the Welsh flag. I mean on a visual level. I just think it is a great looking flag, that's all.

I bought this little ceramic Welsh dragon while on holiday in Snowdonia. I was going to post it for the 'souvenir' challenge but I have a whole list of souvenirs that I intend to draw. I do like to come home from everywhere I visit with at least one piece of tat.

And, in answer to a question I was once asked when holiday in the States; NO, there are not still dragons in Wales!

  1. But more importantly, are there still corgis? :-)

I stumbled across your blog yesterday, and am in awe of your drawing skill.

Yes, it IS a goodlooking flag! Coincidentally, I drew a dragon today, too, but you can hardly recognize it, smushed as it is under a woman warrior's feet. Your souvenir is drawn beautifully, Andrea. Your sketchblog is a visual treat!

  6. My only real Welsh connection is my corgi. :-) I knit for Wales in the knitting Olympics last winter, as the rule was that if you had ever heard of Wales, you could be on the team. :-)

  8. Beautiful shading on this drawing Andrea. I'd never seen the Welsh flag so I looked it up online--a dragon, how cool!

  9. Wow, you have such a great ability to define an object without lines. I can really learn a lot from you!

Oh, and if the rumors are true, and there are corgis hanging out over there, will you please pick me up one? Pokey needs a brother.

I didn't know i could use "cute" next to "dragon" but here it is! You managed to convey the volume of the beast amazingly well.

  11. Cheers everyone,

Now, what does that say about Wales - you can be in the team if you've heard of the country!!! I love it!

I've decided on a new direction in my career - breeding corgis. I take it I've got a few sales already? I'll put them in the post as soon as their ready!

Thanks for your comments they are always much appreciated.
