Just a couple of quick sketchbook page drawings. They haven't scanned very well - a little washed out. Still I've finally managed to get two pictures in one post. Of course, they are not quite where I wanted them to be, but still, one step at a time....Onions in pen and watercolour.
I love these! You really grasped the papery texture of the onion skin with your the wash and light pen strokes. Nice job!

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. I did struggle with whether or not to post these -as they are quite 'rough' sketches. But even though they are quite different from the work I usually do theres something I like about them. What I always find surprising is that people respond to the work that you wouldn't expect them too!? Does anyone else find that?

ReplyDeleteI agree with what you're saying about people's reactions to the stuff we felt "meh" about! And i think it's partly because they are drawings that we did not intentionally work on - they came out of us like that, and they usually have a freshness that people can detect immediately. I hope this all makes sense. I could write pages about that but i'll stop here.
Also, i liked your question about today's chair on my blog -- since it was drawn in the back of a photocopy which had text on it, the text showed through. I just left it like that, in all its roughness.
Thanks everyone for the comments. France, it is an interesting subject isn't it? Where all this stuff comes from - you're right it could take pages. Why do we draw the things we do? The drawings we don't like - do they represent a part or place in us we do not like? That we do not want to show to the world?? Very interesting....
